History
Izawa Miya is a venerable auxiliary shrine of Ise Jingu's Inner Shrine, enshrining the spirit of Amaterasu Omikami. Situated in the rich natural surroundings near the sea of Shima, it has long been called "Toonomi" (the Distant Shrine) and cherished by the people. The "Mita Ue Matsuri" (Rice Planting Festival) held every June in is renowned as one of Japan's three great rice planting festivals, and the sacred ritual praying for a bountiful harvest continues to be carefully preserved. Blessed with both the gifts of the sea and mountains, this is a precious shrine where one can feel the deep compassion of the kami while paying respects.
