History
Shōryūji is the thirty-sixth temple of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage and has been cherished by many pilgrims over the centuries. This ancient temple nestles in the lush mountains of Tosa and is said to have been founded by Kōbō Daishi Kūkai. The temple's name "Shōryū" is said to derive from Shōryū Myōō, a guardian deity of Buddhism, and has long been revered as a spiritually efficacious sacred site for protection from calamity and fulfillment of all wishes. Along the Shikoku pilgrimage route, this temple continues to serve as an important pilgrimage site that purifies the hearts of visitors and receives the prayers of many people.
