History
Zōshi-ga-ya Kishimojin-dō is a temple founded in 1578 (Tenshō 6) during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, beloved as a deity protecting children and their upbringing. Kishimojin-sama, originally a demon deity, was transformed through the Buddha's teaching into a compassionate goddess devoted to protecting children. Since the Edo period, she has been cherished by common people as a deity of safe childbirth and easy delivery, and today many mothers continue to visit for her blessings. Within the grounds stands a towering ginkgo tree over 400 years old, welcoming visitors with its splendid golden foliage each autumn. On the 18th of every month, the sacred day draws traditional candy vendors, offering nostalgic charm.
