Hakuryu-ji
Kagawa Mure-cho Mure 3416 Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture
History
Hakuryu-ji is known as the eighty-fifth temple on the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage. As its name suggests, the temple is said to have been called Hakuryu (Eight Chestnuts) due to the eight chestnut trees that once stood within its grounds. Situated on the middle slope of Gogoken Mountain with commanding views of the Seto Inland Sea, the temple stands in a breathtaking location. As a sacred site with deep connections to Kobo Daishi Kukai, it attracts many pilgrims. From the halls built on the mountainside, the islands of the Seto Inland Sea are beautifully visible, and the scenery is so moving that it seems to cleanse the spirit.
