Kanagawa Isehara 724 Oyama
History
Oyamadera is an ancient temple of the Shingon sect founded in 755 (Tempyo Shoho 7) by Abbot Roben. For a long period, it served as the head temple of Oyama Afuri Jinja and was the center of syncretic Shinto-Buddhist faith. During the Edo period, it attracted devotion as part of the 'Oyama Pilgrimage,' drawing many worshippers. The main hall enshrines a cast iron statue of Fudo Myoo, revered as one of the three great Fudo deities of the Kanto region. Positioned on the slopes of Mt. Oyama with views overlooking Sagami Bay, this sacred place offers visitors the opportunity to experience both spiritual devotion and natural beauty.
