Etchu Kokubunji Ruins Gokoku Jinja

This is Gokoku Jinja, built on the ruins of Etchu Kokubunji. During the Nara period, national temples were established in each province by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu. Etchu Kokubunji was one of these temples, serving the role of protecting the nation through Buddhism. However, following the Meiji-era suppression of Buddhism, it was reborn as Gokoku Jinja, enshrining war casualties. On this sacred land that continues for over a thousand years, the spirits of the honored dead now rest. This is a special place imbued with the weight of ancient history and prayers for peace.
