History
Anahachiman Jinja, enshrined on an elevated area of Waseda, is said to have been founded in 1062 (Kohei 5) by Minamoto no Yoshiie during his campaign in Oshu. During the Edo period, it received the reverence of the Tokugawa shogunate and became particularly famous for its "Ichi-yo Raikufuku" amulets. These amulets, bestowed only between the winter solstice and Setsubun, are believed to bring blessings of financial fortune and business prosperity, drawing visitors from across the nation. The shrine offers a panoramic view of central Tokyo and provides the precious opportunity to pay respects while experiencing the atmosphere of old Edo.
