History
Tenshi Jinja, located in Tengū-chō, Toyama, enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, renowned as the deity of learning. Michizane was an outstanding scholar and statesman of the Heian period, and due to his profound scholarship, he is revered nationwide as the "deity of learning." Toyama's Tenshi Jinja has been cherished by local people as a shrine for academic achievement and success in examinations. Particularly during examination season, many students and parents visit to seek the protection of Michizane. It is, in fact, the namesake of "Tengū-chō" and a symbolic presence for the community.
