Kumano Hayatama Taisha
Wakayama Shingu Shingu
History
Kumano Hayatama Taisha is enshrined near the mouth of the Kumano River and is affectionately known as "Shingu-san," one of the three Kumano shrines. Its principal deities are Kumano Hayatama Okami and Kumano Fusumi Okami, and as the divine couple Izanagi and Izanami, they are remarkably effective for matchmaking and marital harmony. Within the grounds stands an ancient Nagi tree over a thousand years old, and its leaves are treasured as protective amulets for love. The shrine shares deep connections with Kamikura Shrine across the Kumano River, and the Omato Festival on February 6th each year features a grand fire ceremony. True to its name of Hayatama, it is worshipped as a deity that swiftly fulfills wishes.
