History

Kanazaki Miya is a historic shrine located at the ruins of Kanagasaki Castle, a site famous as a tragedy of the Northern and Southern Courts period. In 1335, Nitta Yoshisada garrisoned at this location to protect Prince Takanaga and Prince Tsuneyoshi, sons of Emperor Go-Daigo, but was besieged by the Ashikaga army and the castle fell. Prince Takanaga committed suicide and Prince Tsuneyoshi was captured in a sorrowful conclusion. Later, this shrine was built to honor their loyalty.
