Tateishi Jinja
History
Tateishi Jinja, commonly known as "Yamadera," is an ancient temple of the Tendai sect. It is said to have been founded by Jikaku Daishi Ennin and is a spiritually significant place. It is famous as the location where the haiku poet Matsuo Basho composed his celebrated verse "Quietness—penetrating the very rocks, the voice of cicadas." Climbing over a thousand stone steps in devotion is truly a spiritual discipline. The views from the halls standing on steep cliffs are breathtaking, and the scenery transforms beautifully with each season. Upon reaching the summit, one experiences a profound sense of accomplishment and spiritual purification. This is a sacred site of authentic spiritual power where evil ties are severed and good relationships are formed.
