Taro-bo-miya

Shiga Shiga Kowaki-cho 2247, Higashiomi

History

Taro-bo-miya is formally called Aga Jinja and is situated on the mountainside of Akagami-yama, serving as a sacred site of mountain worship. Along the approach path stands a massive couple's rock formation, and there is a legend that those with wicked intentions will be caught between the stones as they pass through. It flourished as a site of ascetic Buddhist practice and was devoutly believed in by warriors as a shrine of victory and good fortune. The view of Lake Biwa from the summit is spectacular, and the heart is surely purified by the experience.
