Toshogu

The Toshogu in Miyazaki City is a shrine enshrining Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Edo shogunate. As one of the Toshogu shrines found throughout the nation, it has been carefully maintained by people in Miyazaki who revere the virtues of Ieyasu. It stands on a slight elevation called Maruyama, in an excellent location overlooking Miyazaki City. Tokugawa Ieyasu was a great warrior who ended the age of war and established the peaceful Edo period. Thus it is said to bestow benefits for fortune in contests and advancement in position, and many people visit during important turning points in their lives.
