Suiten Gū

The Suiten Gū of Kurume is known as the head shrine of all Suiten Gū throughout Japan. It is said to have been founded in the Kenkyū era of the Heian period and has long gathered the faith of people as the deity of water. Particularly famous nationwide as the goddess of safe childbirth, the imperial household and countless others visit to pray for safe delivery. Situated on the banks of the Chikugo River, watching over the health and happiness of mother and child as the deity governing the blessings of water and the birth of life, it continues its divine protection. The precincts also feature beautiful gardens where one can enjoy the natural beauty of each season.
