Yoshida Jinja
Kyoto Kyoto Yoshida Kagaraokacho 30, Sakyo Ward
History
Yoshida Jinja is an ancient shrine situated on Kagaraoka in Kyoto. Since its founding in the early Heian period, it has continuously protected the northeast gate against evil of the imperial capital. The Setsubun Festival in particular draws one of the city's largest crowds, with hundreds of thousands of worshippers gathering. Within the grounds stands the Daigangu shrine, which enshrines deities from throughout the nation, and it is said that worshipping here alone provides the same blessings as visiting all the nation's shrines. I myself always visit during Setsubun to pray for a year of good health and safety.
