Tado Taisha
History
Tado Taisha is a renowned shrine with deep connections to Ise Jingu, celebrated in the saying "If you visit Ise, be sure to visit Tado too; visiting Ise without Tado is but half a pilgrimage." With Amatsu Hikone no Mikoto as its principal deity, it has long been cherished as Kita Ise Daijingu (Northern Ise Grand Shrine). The shrine is particularly famous for the "Agema Shinji" (Horse-Climbing Divine Ritual) held every May, where young men ride horses up a steep slope in a valiant festival that divines that year's harvest—a sacred ceremony. Situated at the base of Mount Tado in a naturally abundant location, this shrine has been a spiritual support for people since ancient times and truly deserves to be called the "Tutelary Deity of Northern Ise."
