Tokiwa Jinja

Tokiwa Jinja is a venerable shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the second lord of the Mito Domain (known as Mito Komon), and Tokugawa Nariaki, the ninth lord. Founded during the Meiji era, it has become cherished as an important sacred site symbolizing the history and culture of Mito. Adjoining Kairaku-en Garden, the shrine is also renowned as a celebrated plum blossom viewing spot, attracting many visitors each spring alongside the beautiful blossoms. Due to the spiritual virtue of Lord Mitsukuni, who valued learning, many people visit seeking academic success.
