History
Kono Hachiman-gu is an ancient shrine named after Shibuya Konno-maru, who served Minamoto no Yoshiie in the late Heian period. Long revered as the tutelary shrine of the Shibuya clan, from whom the place name Shibuya is said to derive. Though situated amid the bustle of the city center, the grounds are enveloped in a solemn atmosphere that purifies the hearts of visitors. The shrine building, adorned with splendid carvings by master craftsmen of the Edo period, conveys the weight of history. Even today, many people visit seeking spiritual support.
