Kagami Jinja

Kagami Jinja, enshrined in the mountainous region of Kagami in Saito City, is an ancient shrine located in an area renowned as the home of kagura sacred dance. The kagura of this region is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, and the overnight kagura performances held each winter are truly magnificent. Faith in the mountain kami runs deep, and the shrine has long been cherished by those praying for abundant harvests of the five grains and safety in the mountains. The shrine grounds where kagura dances are dedicated to the kami are filled with a sacred atmosphere. This is truly a shrine where one can feel the depth of faith transmitted together with traditional performing arts, like the very homeland of the Japanese spirit.
