History
Horin-ji in Nakano Ward is an ancient temple of the Shingon school with a long history. It is said to have been founded in the Heian period and continues to transmit the teachings of Kobo Daishi Kukai as a sacred place cherished by local people. During the Edo period, it received the devout faith of the feudal lord who governed Nakano, and the precincts house a magnificent main hall and many Buddhist statues. Even today, Goma prayers based on Shingon esoteric Buddhist teachings are performed, and many believers visit seeking peace of mind.
