Manpuku-ji
Kanagawa Kamakura 2-4-8 Koshigoe
History
Manpuku-ji is an ancient Shingon temple in Koshigoe, Kamakura, known for its deep connection to Minamoto no Yoshitsune. It is particularly famous among history enthusiasts as the place where Yoshitsune wrote the Koshigoe no jō (petition) seeking reconciliation with his brother Yoritomo. The temple grounds display Yoshitsune's personal belongings and copies of the Koshigoe no jō, allowing visitors to contemplate the turbulent Heian period. Located near the sea, worship here while feeling the sea breeze is truly special. I sometimes find myself reflecting on Yoshitsune's state of mind in this place.
