Seiganto-ji
History
An ancient temple with miraculous spiritual power situated with a close view of Nachi Waterfall, this is renowned as the first temple of the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage. A symbolic existence of shinbutsu-shugo (syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism) on Nachi Mountain, it has served as the center of Nachi Waterfall faith together with Hitotsutaki Shrine. During the Heian period, it became a memorable pilgrimage site when Emperor Kazan initiated the Saigoku pilgrimage, attracting numerous pilgrims. From the main hall, one can view the entire Nachi Waterfall, and it is an ideal place to purify one's heart while listening to the sound of the waterfall. Today, it remains a sacred place filled with prayer as pilgrims from across the nation continue to visit seeking the compassion of Kannon.
