History

Itabashi Hikawa Jinja is an ancient shrine said to have been founded in the Heian period, with its spirit transferred from Omiya Hikawa Shrine, the primary shrine of Musashi Province. During the Edo period, it served as the tutelary shrine of Itabashi Post Station, attracting the faith of travelers along the Nakasendo route and local residents. Susanoo no Mikoto, the kami enshrined at Hikawa Shrine, is revered as a kami of misfortune prevention and good relationships, and is particularly known for blessings of harmony between spouses and domestic happiness. The shrine grounds feature a magnificent sacred tree, allowing visitors to feel the history of watching over Itabashi's development. Beloved by many parishioners as a warm, community-centered shrine.
