Nichitsu Jingu and Kunikakuri Jingu are ancient shrines representative of Wakayama, enshrining two deities: Nichitsu Okami and Kunikakuri Okami. Their history is said to trace back to the time of Emperor Jinmu, and they have long been revered as the primary shrine of Kii Province. Nichitsu Okami, as the sun god, and Kunikakuri Okami, as the god of the land, together illuminate and protect people's lives.
