Raijinja is an ancient shrine enshrined in the great stone of Kurume, with the deity of thunder as its principal kami. It is said to have been established in this agriculturally prosperous region to express gratitude for the blessed rains brought by thunderstorms and simultaneously to seek protection from lightning damage. Watched over by the fertile lands of the Chikugo Plain, this dependable deity brings timely rain and fair weather, and has been deeply revered by farmers and local residents. With the powerful energy of thunder, the kami wards off evil spirits and bestows new life force.
