Named after "Asahi ga Yatsu" (Valley of the Morning Sun), from which the place name Asagaya derives, it has been revered as a sacred site blessed by the morning rays. During the Edo period, it became beloved as the tutelary shrine of Asagaya village, and remains a central shrine of the community drawing many worshippers today. Each August, the annual grand festival features a spirited mikoshi procession, an important ceremony deepening community unity. The large zelkova tree within the grounds is also a notable sight.
