Eigenji
History
Eigenji is a great head temple of the Rinzai school, founded by Zen Master Jakushitsu Genko during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period. Situated deep in a mountain gorge along the upper reaches of the Aichi River, it has long served as a training hall for Zen Buddhism, nurturing many monks in their practice. It is particularly beautiful during the autumn foliage season, widely known as the "Maple Leaves of Eigenji." Combined with the pristine waters of the Aichi River flowing through the grounds, it presents a scene of truly painterly beauty. In the quiet atmosphere befitting a Zen temple, it offers a wonderful spiritual place where one can offer prayers with a calm mind. Here one can experience the spirit of Zen as it becomes one with nature.
