Morioka Tenmangū

Morioka Tenmangū is a shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the kami of learning. Located in Kitatennshouji-chō, it serves as the center of learning faith in Morioka and is beloved by many students and examination candidates. Sugawara no Michizane was both an excellent scholar and statesman, and through his divine virtue, the shrine is said to bestow great benefits for academic achievement and examination success. The grounds are planted with plum trees, and the fragrance of plums associated with Michizane welcomes visitors. During examination season, many students and parents visit to pray for success, and the shrine stands as an important guardian of education in Morioka.
