Hiyoshi Jinja

Hiyoshi Jinja in Tsuruga is a shrine of the Sannō (Mountain King) faith, having received the divided spirit from the Hiyoshi Taisha in Ōmi. It enshrines Ōyamakui no Kami and Ōnamuchi no Kami, and has long been cherished as the tutelary kami of the local community. The kami of Hiyoshi, also called "Sannō-san," is known for its spiritual blessings of protection against evil and warding off misfortune. The monkey, which is the divine messenger of the sacred ape, is particularly treasured as an auspicious being whose name echoes the meanings "evil departs" and "prevails." It is a warm shrine that has long continued to pray for the peace and prosperity of the region.
