Sumiyoshi Jinja

Sumiyoshi Jinja is a shrine that has been revered since ancient times as a deity of safe navigation and prosperous commerce. Enshrining the three Sumiyoshi deities, it was originally worshipped as a god of the sea, but in the inland regions of Shinshu it has become beloved as a guardian deity of traffic safety and commerce. Continuing to be cherished by the local people in the Shinonoi area of Nagano, it has gathered the devout faith of those engaged in commerce and those wishing for safe travels. Standing as if watching over the flow of the Chikuma River, it has protected the development of Shinshu and the lives of its people, serving as an important shrine for the community.
