Ibaraki Hitachinaka-shi Isozaki-cho 4607-2 Hitachinaka-shi

History

Sakaatsu Isomae Jinja is an ancient shrine located in Isozaki, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, enshrining Sukunahikona-no-mikoto and Okuninushi-no-mikoto. The name "Sakaatsu" is said to derive from the practice of lining up sacred sake as offerings, and the shrine has been revered as a deity of sake brewing. Particularly famous is the beautiful camellia tunnel lining the approach path. Each spring, brilliant red camellia blossoms bloom gloriously, creating a magnificent sight as if the gods themselves were decorating the path to the sacred realm. As a coastal shrine facing the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean, and as a deity of medicine and good matches, it continues to be beloved by many visitors.
