Honno-ji

This temple is famous as the site of the 'Honno-ji Incident' where Oda Nobunaga was struck down by Akechi Mitsuhide, though the current location is actually different from the original site. After the incident in 1582, it was relocated to its present location by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. As the head temple of the Nichiren sect and a place of high prestige with a mausoleum dedicated to Nobunaga, it is particularly popular with history enthusiasts. The grounds display various items connected to Nobunaga, allowing visitors to reflect upon the impermanence of the Sengoku age and the deeds of heroes.
