Tsuki Jinja

Saitama Kishi-cho 3-17-25 Saitama-shi Urawa-ku

History

Tsuki Jinja is a very rare shrine dedicated to the moon, enshrined in Urawa. Famous as a charming sanctuary where rabbits, rather than lion-dogs, guard the grounds, it is beloved as a shrine of good fortune due to the auspicious meaning of "Tsuki" (luck) read in the shrine's name. An ancient shrine continuing from the Heian period, it enshrines Inari Daikoku, Amaterasu Ōmikami, and Susanoo no Mikoto. The grounds are filled with many stone rabbit statues that gently welcome visitors. It is one of my favorite shrines, as people from all over the country visit to seek rising fortune by relying on "Tsuki."
