History
Tainen-ji is an ancient temple of the Soto Zen sect founded in 1410 (Ōei 17), standing in the deep mountains beyond Nagato Yumoto Hot Spring. It is particularly known as the tragic site where Ouchi Yoshitaka, the last daimyo of the Ouchi clan, committed suicide during the Sengoku period due to the rebellion of his retainer Suto Harukata. Within the grounds are the tomb of Ouchi Yoshitaka and a beautiful approach path famous for its autumn foliage, attracting many visitors in the fall. It continues to be loved by people seeking spiritual peace as a sacred place where the weight of history harmonizes with the beauty of nature.
