Kameyama Hachimangu

Kameyama Hachimangu in Shimonoseki is a venerable Hachiman shrine venerating Emperor Ojin. It is enshrined on a small elevated hill overlooking the Kanmon Strait and has long been cherished by the people of Shimonoseki as the chief tutelary shrine of the region. The shrine is also known for its connections to the Genpei War, and it is said that military commanders who fought in the Battle of Dan-no-ura came to pray for victory. The shrine grounds offer a magnificent view overlooking the sea, and visitors can gaze upon the Kanmon Bridge and passing ships while reflecting on the long flow of history.
