Nishi-muki Tenjin Jinja

Nishi-muki Tenjin Jinja is enshrined in Shinjuku Ward and is a remarkable shrine dedicated to a deity of learning, as its name suggests, facing west. It enshrines Sugawara no Michizane and is believed to have acquired its name "Nishi-muki" (west-facing) from its unique orientation.
