History

Shitoori Jinja is an ancient shrine dedicated to Takehazuchi no Mikoto, the kami of weaving, and is one of the oldest shrines in Tottori Prefecture. The name "Shitoori" refers to ancient Japanese weaving techniques, reflecting this region's long history of prosperity through textile production. During the Heian period, it was widely worshipped as a kami of safe childbirth. In particular, a sacred rock called the "Ansaniro" (Safety Childbirth Rock) is famous for the legend that pregnant women who visit will have safe deliveries. Today, many expectant mothers and their families continue to visit to pray for safe childbirth, maintaining this warm and loving faith.
