Takae Jinja

Takae Jinja is a rare shrine nationwide dedicated to the god of cooking. Enshrining Iwakashikuroka no Mikoto, revered as the ancestral deity of cooking, it has long gathered the deep faith of chefs and those involved in food. Befitting the location blessed with the bounty of sea and mountain from Minamibouso, people from throughout the nation come to visit in prayer for gratitude toward ingredients and improvement in culinary skills. The knife ceremony performed several times yearly displays magnificent technique, truly allowing one to sense the profound depths of cooking as a sacred art.
