Ikisu Jinja

Ikisu Jinja is counted among the Three Great Shrines of Eastern Japan alongside Kashima Jingu and Katori Jingu. It enshrines Kunahoto no Kami and Ame no Torishune no Kami, and has long been revered as a guardian deity of important transportation routes. Located on the banks of the Tone River, the shrine is also venerated as a protective deity of water transport. Within the shrine grounds stands the mystically efficacious Oshioi well, from which pure water flows that miraculously contains no seawater. As one of the three shrines in the Eastern Shrines pilgrimage and gathering the faith of those seeking safe travel and safe voyage, it is a shrine enriched by history and tradition.
