Hinami Toshogu

Hinami Toshogu is Kyushu's only Toshogu shrine enshrining Tokugawa Ieyasu. Founded in the early Edo period by the Itō clan, lords of Hyuga Domain, it was established to pray for loyalty to the Tokugawa house and the peace of the domain's people. This shrine of great prestige stands in a corner of the Hyuga castle town. Its beautifully vermillion-painted shrine buildings are constructed in the Gongen style, modeled after the Nikko Toshogu. With its vibrant decorations and solemn appearance, it radiates a dignity truly worthy of being called "Kyushu's Nikko." A renowned shrine of historical significance and prestige that has walked alongside Hyuga's samurai culture.
