Chichibu Jinja
History
Chichibu Jinja is an ancient shrine of distinguished lineage boasting a history of over two thousand years as the fourth primary shrine of Musashi Province. It enshrines Omoi Shikonekonomikoto, Chichihiko no Mikoto, and Amanaka no Arashimomikanushino Mikoto, serving as the chief shrine protecting the Chichibu region. The present shrine structures, rebuilt by Tokugawa Ieyasu, are adorned with magnificent carvings attributed to master carver Jinzaemon Sasaki, including the "tiger raising cubs" and "dragon of binding." The Chichibu Night Festival held in December each year is one of Japan's three great float festivals and is known throughout the nation, drawing numerous pilgrims. As the deity of wisdom, it is also cherished for its efficacy in academic achievement.
