Daiseioin

Daiseioin is an ancient Shingon Buddhist temple on Miyajima, said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi in 806. As the subsidiary temple of Itsukushima Shrine, it managed the shrine for a long time and served as the center of Miyajima's religious culture. It has maintained deep connections with notable historical figures, including Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who held a tea ceremony within its grounds. The temple grounds house numerous Buddhist statues and sacred sites, including sand-treading pilgrimage sites of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temples. As a spiritual pillar of the entire island, with Miyajima itself as a sacred pilgrimage site, many visitors come seeking spiritual peace and merit.
