Shonai Inari Jinja, enshrined in Tsuruoka, is revered as the deity of business prosperity and bountiful harvests. Located in the Shonai plain, one of Japan's premier granaries, it has long attracted the faith of farmers seeking abundant yields. During the Edo period, it received protection from the Shonai domain and came to be venerated as the god of commerce alongside the development of the Tsuruoka castle town's commerce and industry. Today, shopkeepers and business owners continue to visit seeking prosperity, while many worshippers pray for abundant food on their tables. It remains a cherished guardian deity supporting the Shonai region's rich food culture.
