History
Nekonji is the 82nd sacred site of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage and a mountain temple built on the slopes of Mount Aonmine. Its name "Nekonji" means the fragrance of roots, representing the pure air and blessings of nature in the deep mountains. With the Thousand-Armed Kannon as its principal deity, it is particularly known for prayers for healing of illness and bodily health. In its quiet mountain setting, it has long been loved by many believers as a sacred site where both body and mind are purified. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful scenery of each season in its nature-rich grounds.
