Yokomine-ji

Yokomine-ji is located on the middle slope of Mount Ishizuchi in Komatsumachi, Saijo, and is the sixtieth temple of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temples pilgrimage route. Standing at an elevation of approximately 750 meters, it is known as a mountain temple and a sacred site of Shugendo ascetic practice. It is said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai and has been deeply connected with the faith of Mount Ishizuchi. This temple, reached by climbing a steep mountain path, is truly worthy of being called a heavenly spiritual place. While pilgrimage requires considerable physical stamina and resolve, the spiritual benefits obtained are exceptional. Within the shrine grounds filled with the spiritual essence of the mountain, one can purify body and mind and offer deep prayers.
