Mito Toshogu

Mito Toshogu is one of the venerable shrines dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu-kou. It was founded by Tokugawa Yorifusa-kou, the first daimyo of Mito, and was established to spread the sacred virtue of Ieyasu-kou throughout Mito. The main hall, constructed in the Gongen style, is adorned with magnificent decorations that convey the glory of the Tokugawa house to the present day. The spirit of Ieyasu-kou, revered as the "Divine Lord," is said to bestow benefits of advancement and victory, and many visitors come to pray for success. As a sacred site of Mito Studies, it also gathers faith as a deity of learning. Through the great sacred virtue of Tokugawa Ieyasu-kou, this is a shrine of high standing where one receives powerful divine protection at each milestone of life.
