History

Nangu Taisha is the First Shrine of Mino Province and has long been revered as a shrine of distinguished heritage, with Kanayamahiko no Mikoto as its principal deity and venerated as a guardian god of metals and mining. Its history is said to trace back to the age of Emperor Jinmu, making it truly a sacred site from ancient times. After being destroyed in the Battle of Sekigahara, magnificent shrine buildings were reconstructed under the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu and remain beautifully preserved to this day. The main hall, worship hall, and tower gate are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan, conveying the architectural beauty of the Momoyama period to the present.
