Kumano Jinja

Fukui Yado 1-16-37 Sakai, Fukui Prefecture, Mikuni-cho

History

The Kumano Jinja of Mikuni is a shrine of Kumano worship, having received the divided spirit from Kumano in Kii Province. With the three great deities of Kumano as enshrined kami, it is a venerable shrine that has been revered as the tutelary deity of the region since ancient times. The Kumano deities are known as kami of resurrection and rebirth, offering protection for new beginnings in life and recovery from hardship. They are also guardian kami, like the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, watching over and guiding the journey of life. Walking through history together with the port town of Mikuni, this warm shrine has continued to pray for maritime safety and the prosperity of the community.
