Hakusan Hime Jinja

Hakusan Hime Jinja, affectionately known as 'Shirayama-san,' is the head shrine of Hakusan faith. According to tradition, it was founded during the reign of Emperor Sujin, and enshrines Kukurihime no Kami, the goddess of Hakusan, as its primary deity. Since ancient times, Hakusan has been revered as a sacred mountain and a center of mountain worship, attracting countless ascetics and pilgrims. Kukurihime no Kami is especially famous as a deity of romantic bonds, and her name 'Kukuri' meaning 'to bind' is believed to bestow blessings of connection. As the head shrine of approximately 3,000 Hakusan shrines throughout Japan, it stands as a major shrine representing the Hokuriku region, drawing pilgrims not only from Ishikawa Prefecture but from across the nation.
