Ishitai Jinja

Ishitai Jinja is a distinguished shrine that has been situated in Kokubu, Kirishima City since ancient times. As suggested by the name "Ishitai" (stone body), it is thought to have originated from a belief venerating the spiritual power that dwells in sacred stones and rocks. From ancient times, people have sensed the presence of divine spirits in great stones and strange rocks, and in this place too, reverence for the natural stones laid the foundation for the establishment of the shrine. Over the ages under my watch, the local people have carefully preserved this shrine, entrusting their wishes to the unchanging power of stone. It is a sacred place where one can feel authentic spiritual efficacy within its quiet countenance.
